Hellvellyn Trail Race - Keswick - Nov. 1st
The Vernon Family from Heighington took part in this challenging event. It used the lower slopes but the route was still rough underfoot to cause discomfort for competitors.
First Back for the club in the tough race was Dad Stuart in 1.21.55, then son Hugh in 1.38.13, finally Mother Gail in 1.52.04.
Gibside Fruit Bowl Trail Race - Gibside - Nov. 2nd
The day after, half a dozen Aycliffe runners took part in the very popular Gibside Fruit Bowl Trail race near Rowland's Gill. The course had to be shortened to 10k and re-directed due to flooding on the river paths but this meant more hills were included. First back for club was Richard Campbell in 55th place and 44.49, next Janet Raper in 48.50, then keen road runner John Edmondson just behind in 49.05. Chris Forster finished in 54.42, next Janet McRae home in 54.46, finally Dave Mackenzie who normally runs only on the road ran well to finish in 56.44.
Derwentwater 10 miles - Keswick - Nov. 2nd
On the same day in the Derwentwater 10 mile road race nr Keswick Trish Kay had a good run to finish in 1.21.40.
Maltby 7 miles Road Race - nr. Middlesbrough - Nov. 9th
Youngster James Askew decided to use the race as a training run but still managed to finish in 13th place, time 42.11, James, who is coached by his father Kevin, says he is now winding down for the North East cross county championships at Wrekington in December. Martin Randall finished in 23rd position, time 43.55, next Julia Atkinson-Tait finished in 47.53 and 3rd lady, finally new member Penny Johnson broke the hour barrier to finish in 59.15.
Brampton to Carlisle 10 miles road race - Nov. 15th
On a bright and breezy day in the Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile road race, Trish Kay made another trip to Cumbria and picked up a pb in the bargain to finish in a very good 1hr 20mins 6 secs.
NYSD X/C - Nunthorpe - Nov. 16th
Ten year old Henry Johnson made an excellent debut for Aycliffe at the recent N.Y.S.D. cross country held at Upsall Hall nr. Nunthorpe. Young Henry won the 1st race of the day in the under 11s boys race, his time was 2mins 8secs, In the ladies race over 3.5 miles Susan Milburn ran well to finish in 22nd, time 28.47, Penny Johnson also finished well in 44th, time 34.13.
In the men's 6 mile race Aycliffe fielded a good team over the extended hilly route. First back for the club was James Askew in a very good 22nd place, time 40.47. next Peter Milburn broke in to the top 30 in 29th place, time 42.00, then Martin Randall not fully fit yet finished in 37th place, time 43.19, Youngster Shaun Bell finished in 41st place, time 43.32, next new member Steven Dawson had an excellent run to finish in 43rd place, time, 43.36, then Richard Campbell finished in 50th place, time 45.08, Martin Turnbull finished in 69th place, time 48.06, John Edmondson switched from the roads to take part and finished in 77th place, time 49.50, finally Kevin Greenall finished in 78th place, time 50.13.
North-East Harrier League - Blaydon - Nov. 23rd
In last Sunday's North East Harrier league cross country at Blaydon, James Askew finished in 22nd, time 31.23, James, who his coached by his dad, Kevin Askew, will now be promoted to the medium pack for the next race.
Thirsk 10 miles road race - Nov. 30th
There were freezing temperatures here but that did not deter Sedgefield youngster James Askew from taking part in this popular race, James had a tremendous race finishing well under the 1hour mark in 30th place, time 58.53, also making good progress after a summer lay- off was Martin Randall, finishing in a very good 63.15, then Caroline Holmes running well to finish in 77.58, finally Dave Mackenzie also had a good run to finish in 78.17.
