Tees Barrage 10K - Stockton - 4th May
A cool wind could not hold back the energies of the eight Newton Aycliffe AC runners who completed the Tees Barrage 10k race on May Day Bank Holiday. It was certainly no barrier to James Askew who stormed round the course in 36 minutes 23 seconds. The 500 entry limit was
reached once again in event’s 4th year. Following a rapid start the runners streamed into a 3 metre wide channel along the riverside path. After navigating Newport Bridge they turned upstream reaching half way on the opposite bank of the Barrage. The headwind and loose gravel
made the journey towards Stockton hard work. Once over the road bridge the course snaked through the University of Durham campus. Here the competitors had to draw on reserves of stamina because although the end was in sight, time and again the route meandered around the quays to cheering supporters at the finish.

James Askew 36:23, Peter Milburn 38:09, Richard Campbell 40:30, Susan Milburn 44:51, John Edmondson 45:35, John Young 48:49, Penny Johnson 51:38, Tracey McKenna 58:18.

The event was coordinated by Susan Milburn, Middlesbrough DV Coordinator, in conjunction with Andy Fisher who is the Coordinator for the Park Runs.
Run on paths and woodland tracks and grass. Enjoyable low key events, very well
organised.
On 6th, two local celebrities started the first run  - Ross Turnbull MFC goalkeeper and Sharon Gayter - A Great Britain International - John O Groats to Lands End record holder (from Guisborough).
75 people completed the first run with more expected for the next two. The atmosphere was great, and people made some donations to support our campaign to END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

back, confirming that his previous ankle injury was adequately recovered, followed closely by Julia. The mile long hill after the Abbey slowed John who nevertheless finished in a respectable time of 1h 20m 38s.

Several club members turned out, including new member Edward Redvers, who, in his first race, had an excellent run, finishing in the top ten, also first club runner back. Also Margaret Greenhall flew the flag for the female members, who seem a bit thin on the ground in races. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust Yorkshire 10k race was set in the beautiful

atmosphere at the start. The sound of them playing Jade’s Eurovision

runners because they all ran excellent times. Peter Milburn finished
6th overall in a fast time for the course which was mainly on grass of
39:43. Sue Milburn was the 4th lady overall and fastest lady in her category with her time
of 46:19 followed closely by John Edmondson in 46:35.
