Mulgrave Run - Lythe - 5th July
On Sunday 5th July Peter Milburn and Sharon Towns took part in the 1st Mulgrave run starting from Lythe near Sandsend (Whitby). The 9 mile Trail Race started on the road for the 1st mile and a half, then entered the very hilly Musgrave woods heading towards Sandsend before turning off on a figure of 8 loop to run past the Mulgrave Castle walls, then a detour over more hilly fields before descending to the finish. Out of 54 finishers Peter finished in 6th place in a time of 64.38 and 2nd over 40, Sharon finished in 35th, time 83.48. Sharon also picked up 1st over 35 ladies prize.
Croft 'Pit Stop'10K - 8th July
Not the most scenic of courses but this year the weather was perfect for a good time to be achieved. Flat course of 3 laps. Dave Mackenzie recorded a time of 48.05 - an improvement of 4 seconds on 2008.
Sedgefield Harriers Summer Handicap - 9th July
Only 2 runners from the club - Andrew Robertson and Peter Milburn took part in this event.
Andrew, making a comeback from illness, ran very well to finish in approx. 47mins (no official results yet), then Peter set off last and finished 3rd off last in 41.35, only overtaking 2 (groups of runners set off at 2 min. intervals meaning anyone not telling the truth about their previous year's best 10k will leave you no chance of catching anyone!)
Sunderland 5K - 22nd July
Peter Milburn celebrated his 50th birthday by running in this very competitive fast course at Silksworth, with a small lap then a big lap round a lake. Peter finished inside the top 60, he thinks, in 18.12 ( 2nd over 50 vet) but the wind stopped many from achieving pbs.
'Seaview 17' - devon - 26th July
Peter Milburn entered this race whilst on holiday. It finished up as 21 miles in the end! and he finished in 3.15.07 and 16th place from 124 finishers.
James Herriott Trail Race - 26th July
Six runners from the Club took part in this year's race, run in wet conditions. Jeff Thirlbeck was first club runner back in 64th place, with Julia Atkinson-Tait and Janet Raper leading Chris Forster, John Young and Ray Todd home.
