NYSD X/C - Acklam Dec. 7th
Aycliffe sent a depleted team due to colds and injuries.
In the U/15s boys race William Crossen finished well up the field in a very good 14th place, then in the U/20 men's race James Askew had a solid run to finish in 18th spot, time 38.57.
Super 0/50 Vet. George Reid had his best run of the season coming over the line in 36th place, time 42.09, next and not far behind was the improving Richard Campbell in 44th, time 42.53.
Blyth Sands Handicap 5 miles - Dec. 7th
On the Same day 3 Aycliffe Runners preferred beach to run on rather than mud; the trio took part in the Blyth Sands Race which was handicapped over 5 miles according to age. First off with an 11 min. start was over 45 lady vet. Janet Raper finishing in a pleasing 7th place, next Janet McRae in 18th place, finally Martin Randall with only a 2 min. start finished in 53rd place.
Durham Districy X/C Championships - Chester-le-Street -
Young Daniel Inglis from Kirk Merrington has made good progress this year, In the Durham district race at Hermitage school in Chester-le-Street Daniel finished 3rd and now qualifies for the Durham counties in January.
North-East X/C Championships - Wrekenton - Dec. 13th
In the North East Cross country Championships at Wrekenton nr . Gateshead, the very wet and cold conditions made the course tough and challenging.
William Crossen from Neasham was on fine form finishing in 21st place in the under 15 boys race, time 15.49.
James Askew finished in 13th place in the under 20s race, then in the Senior men's race war horse George Reid battled his way round the course in 97th spot, time 53.51, next Chilton's Richard Campbell finished just behind in 104th, time 54.22, finally off road specialist Stuart Vernon finished in 159th, time 61.56.
Loftus Poultry Run - Dec. 21st
The Gruelling Loftus Poultry run held last Sunday round the very hilly 8 mile course was a real tester for the 500 finishers, James Askew finished in a very good 18th place, time 47.57, next Peter Milburn in 45th place, time 52.36, then Martin Randall in 55th, time 53.35, Julia Atkinson-Tait finished in 63.04, finally Susan Milburn finished in 64.33 despite taking a tumble on the off road section.
The Ayhope Skyline 10 mile Trail Race - Hamsterley - Dec. 28th
This was a real challenge for 150 competitors. Six Aycliffe runners took part in the event held mainly on forest fire roads with sheep tracks and a moors section included. Youngster James Askew was well placed in the race with only 2 miles to go but failed to see a marker so took a wrong turn along with 2 other runners, James was in 4th place at the time but ended up finishing in 38th place after running an extra 2 miles, so first back for the club was Peter Milburn in 13th, then young Richard Campbell only 1sec. behind in 14th place, time 74.13, next
George Reid in 18th place, time 76.06, Stuart Vernon finished in 48th, time 87.49, then finally Susan Milburn just behind in 52nd place and 1st lady over 45, time 89.02.
